Description

Here’s a warm and comforting Southern Cornbread that brings all the homey, buttery goodness straight from the heart of the South! 🌽🍞 Crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside—this is the perfect side for chili, BBQ, or just slathered with butter and honey! 🍯✨

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional, for slightly sweet cornbread)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a cast-iron skillet in the oven while it preheats. This gives the cornbread a crispy bottom!
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vegetable oil until smooth.
  4. Gently combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just incorporated. Don’t overmix—it’s okay if there are a few lumps!
  5. Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven, grease it lightly, and pour in the batter. You should hear a little sizzle—this ensures a crispy crust!
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with butter, honey, or alongside your favorite Southern meal! 🤤
